Jazan Economic City (JEC)

 

Located 725 km south of Jeddah and covering 100 million sq m Jazan Economic City is expected to attract more than SR100bn in investment and create some 500,000 new jobs. The city includes a seaport, an industrial zone, a commercial business district, residential areas, public amenities such as hospitals and schools, as well as other academic and vocational training institutions.

The primary anchors of port, power and desalination, refining oil, aluminum, steel and copper provide strong downstream opportunities with industries as diverse as pharmaceuticals, food processing and high value agritech producers within a growing regional environment.

The aluminum complex under construction is the largest mineral processing facility to be built in JEC’s industrial zone. The plant, when completed, targets production of 1.4 million tons of alumina and 660,000-700,000 tons aluminum per annum. Total investment in the complex as well as in the associated plants required to supply adequate power, is estimated at US$4bn. The aluminum complex is expected to create 12,000 new jobs.

JEC is also ideally placed at the mouth of the Red Sea to service markets in Europe, Asia and East Africa as well as to receive raw materials from the surrounding countries that are currently not well served with processing and manufacturing facilities.
